Hi, I'm a retired engineer, in the UK. I'm trying to expand the non-engineering side of my brain by studying English Literature and Creative Writing. I did ModPo the year before last, and it was great. Hoping for further mind expansion in SloPo!

Hey there, I'm Colin. I'm new to ModPo, SloPo, AND Joan Retallack. I write poetry and memoir and I work in construction in Philadelphia. Very happy to have discovered ModPo in this new year Welcome, Colin! You're in Philly so please come to the Writers House sometime to attend one of our events! - Al

Enjoy how Al puts together the curriculum; and have read Joan Retallack with enthusiasm. There is poetry in everything; if you look deep enough inside yourself.
Thank you so much for this praise, Ali! - Al

Hello all. I am Lowell. ModPo original. I treasure this community but am not given to instant responses so I will be buried in the forum. I don’t mind. I will be here learning about JR for the first time. That is enough for me.
Lowell is here. The party can start!

Hello everyone! My name is Leah, I live in Toronto, and I did ModPo in 2016. I really enjoyed it. This year I'm coming back for Retallack! I'm not very familiar with her work, and I look forward to learning more. I know that reading poetry helps me in writing poetry, which is something I do like to do occasionally. Otherwise, I work as an editor at a dementia-service organization in Canada, and I'm mom to an 8-year-old kid. Looking forward to learning with you!

Hello, everyone! My name is Jason, I am a native of Baltimore, Maryland, but I moved up to Philadelphia in 2018, the same year I joined ModPo. Coincidence or providence? I now reside only 30 minutes away on foot from the Kelly Writers House, so I'm going with providence! SloPo might be my favorite part of ModPo, and I can't wait to dig into this one with you all. When I'm not ModPo'ing, you can find me hanging with the Philly & Beyond Close-Reading Group, strumming on the guitar, and drinking too much coffee.

Hi! I'm Kymm, a Spanish-to-English translator and Boston native who lives in Barcelona (tho "summering" in Boston as well). I'm overbooked in poetry writing for January, and am notoriously terrible at forums, but LOVE the ModPo and the SloPo way, so will do what I can to participate here. (Case in point: it's now 2 am and all I've done is "introduce myself.") I first did ModPo in 2015; have done a few SloPo's; and even collaborated on The Snowman two Januarys ago ("behold" and "beholds")! I've only read Joan Retallack here, and can definitely use guidance in reading more. And Yay, Hannah!! Hope you feel better soon. I look forward as always to your thoughts.

Hi Al and everyone! I joined ModPo in 2021. What a ride! I'm beside myself with gratitude for this ongoing multidimensional adventure and community.
It's midsummer here on unceded Boon Wurrung land (bayside Melbourne, Oz), which generally means it's either unpleasantly cold or scorching hot (sometimes within the same hour, hence the joke if you don't like the weather in Melbourne, wait a minute).
I chose Lorine Niedecker for my avatar as she's the poet on the syllabus i feel most akin to. I'm thrilled about her upcoming SloPo, but for now excited to be joining this Joan Retallack one with you all.
My background is in book editing, but I'm currently working in a research/copywriting role (and learning about all the soulless AI copywriting tools out there). I've been learning Greek for the last year and am tinkering a bit with Persian. I'd like to write more of my own poetry. I especially enjoy writing poetry collaboratively with friends from this community (hint hint).

Hello there, everyone. I'm halfway through the Modpo course, going at my own pace and I'm new to SloPo. I study English at the National University of Colombia, Bogotá Campus. Although I live in Colombia and English is a foreign language in my day to day, I did grow up in NJ - this is my way to make up for lost years of RLA and to make me a better professional moving forward. In my free time I enjoy music and weightlifting. Looking forward to interacting with you all

I embarked on ModPo for the first time late this fall, reengaging with Dickinson and Whitman, then took a break as we moved from coastal Massachusetts to southwestern Wyoming this half a year to enjoy grandchildren. I am a recently retired elementary teacher with previous work in geographic environmental information, non-profit management, and academic history. For the past five years, I have led occasional evenings for adults exploring the work of modern American poets. I have written poetry (not published) since I was a teenager five decades ago.
I worship, sing, play guitar and ukulele, do yoga, walk, bicycle and sail. I have substantially renovated two houses and spent much of this past summer keeping my mother's rustic camp in Vermont from falling in to the cellar hole. I am deeply rooted in my marriage, my family, and an ethic of service, friendship, and enjoyment of learning. I like to look at things closely.
In setting up our apartment in Wyoming, we put up framed prints found in thrift stores: Georgia O'Keefe, Picasso, print 109 of 250 by T Lempert (of a Schwinn-type bicycle), and two intimate light-filled photographs of spaces created by rocks in Yosemite. On our drive west, friends gave us snowshoes we are finding occasion to enjoy!
I am familiar with Joan Retallack through her work on Gertrude Stein: her own collection of Gertrude Stein: Selections, with her introduction; and her introduction to Hollister and Setina's edition of Stein's Stanzas in Meditation: The Corrected Edition.
Looking forward to our explorations!
Paul

Persian reads from right to left, most of the letters join up and letters change form depending on which letter they're in proximity to. It's fascinating because it's so un-Western Civ, where letters have fixed forms. But that's as far as I've got. I have Iranian friends/colleagues, though, so I hear it quite often. Have you ever studied it?

Hi everyone, I'm Api and I'm a language teacher from Prague. I'm not new to Modpo but I'm pretty new to Joan Retallack and SloPo in general. I'm currently discovering her Mennoir and really excited to be here and learn more about her work.
